Pain isn't just one simple signal; it travels through multiple pathways in the body. Multimodal analgesia uses smaller, safer doses of several different types of medications that work together synergistically to more effectively block pain.
Understanding Pain Management →Elbow Disease & Arthroscopy
Developmental Elbow Disease (often called Elbow Dysplasia) requires extreme precision to treat. We utilise state-of-the-art digital radiographic imaging and minimally invasive keyhole surgery (arthroscopy) to diagnose and treat joint fragments with pinpoint accuracy.
Understanding Elbow Dysplasia →Patellar Luxation
A luxating patella, often recognised by a sudden "skipping" step, occurs when your dog's kneecap repeatedly slips out. We perform surgical realignment combined with other techniques to permanently improve the tracking of the knee mechanism.

How long is the recovery time for a dog after TPLO surgery?
Most dogs begin bearing some weight on the leg within a few days of TPLO surgery. However, strict confinement and controlled leash walks are required for the first 6 to 8 weeks to allow the bone to heal. A full return to normal, off-leash activity typically takes 3 to 4 months.
Do I need a referral from my regular vet to book a surgical consultation?
No formal referral is required. While we frequently collaborate with referring veterinarians across Brisbane, you are welcome to book directly with us for a second opinion or surgical consultation for your pet.
Is anaesthesia safe for my senior dog requiring orthopaedic surgery?
Yes. We utilise elite, multi-modal pain management protocols and specialist-grade monitoring equipment. Every patient has a dedicated anaesthetic nurse managing a protocol tailored specifically to their age, breed, and blood work results to ensure maximum safety.
What should I bring to a second opinion surgical consult?
Please bring any previous x-rays, blood test results, medical records, and a list of your pet's current medications. You can also request that your previous clinic email these records directly to our reception team prior to your appointment.
Seeking a Second Opinion?
If your pet has been diagnosed with a complex orthopaedic condition at another clinic, we are happy to provide an expert second opinion. We can review your pet's x-rays and walk you through all available surgical and medical options, transparently and without pressure.
